The maps below show the service areas for each of our substations. In each map, the distribution lines highlighted in pink are those that are placed on one-shot protection settings during periods of elevated wildfire risk.
During peak fire season, typically from early July through early October, we adjust protection settings on selected high-risk sections and moderate-risk areas of our electrical system to a one-shot setting. If a fault occurs, the affected line is de-energized immediately and remains out of service until crews can inspect the line and make any necessary repairs.
While this approach may result in more frequent outages, it significantly reduces the risk of wildfire ignition. Under normal protection settings, a line may automatically attempt to re-energize up to three times after a fault, creating multiple electrical arcs. With one-shot protection enabled, the line makes only a single trip and does not automatically reclose, minimizing the potential for repeated arcing and reducing the chance of a fire starting.
